B oom boom boomwhen I was younger, my parents were always playing music on the living room stereo. every Saturday and Sunday from the time I can remember, my parents would be listening to everything from classical to hard rock. my mother was a big classical music fan, and my father liked older progressive rock, they both also love the blues. although my musical tastes are far different than those of my parents, you can still see where they are coming from. I mostly listen to electronic based music. more specifically, the trance, drum and bass, techno, and house genres. Although many people call all electronic music techno, they are all very diverse sounds. you could write an entire book on the various genres and sub-genres of electronic music, so I'm not going to list their differences on this page. there are many pages on the internet dedicated to that though. I have found that the sounds of many electronic genres are like those of music past, except with a sound for today. R avesI went to my first rave in 1998 here in Beirut. it was called Beat Machine , and it was put on by Buzz productions. that one single night changed my life. I have heard so many stories about people at their first raves - most of them involving drugs. I am glad mine was different, I went completely sober and just for the music and pure fun of it all. I'll never forget the feeling of being jammed into a dirty dark warehouse with 1000 people for the first time. loud music, lasers, and everyone in the place dancing and smiling. there was something really wicked about it and I knew I was hooked. one of the biggest problems with raves (that I see) is the way uneducated people perceive them. when many people, especially parents hear the word rave, they instantly think all night drug party. don't get me wrong, there are drugs at raves, but there is also drugs at rock concerts, bars, clubs, schools, and everywhere else people gather. i didn't need drugs to have fun. what people don't realize is that raves are about the music for lots of people. for many its even more than music. people at raves don't look down on you because your different. its one of the few places I have felt like i can truly be myself - a silly kid. |
